Zoe grew up in New England with an apple tree in her backyard. Despite what her Mom said about getting a stomach ache if she ate the apples when they were hard and slightly sour, she discovered that she enjoyed the green apples more than the ripe fruits! Later, Zoe moved to Western Washington where, once again she found herself with fruit trees in the backyard. She eventually got bored of making apple pies and decided to make hard cider. Using hand picked apples fresh off the tree and the highest quality ingredients she could find she made her first batch of cider and discovered a love for this adult beverage. Friends who tried her cider were pleasantly surprised by the tart and refreshingly dry taste so Zoe decided to share her hand made beverages with a wider audience. When she met Nick at The Evergreen State College and learned that his background in apple growing country had also left him with a love for hard cider they decided to collaborate on a company that eventually grew to be named Tart.
Nick was born in small farming community in North Central Washington on an apple and cherry orchard. Early on he developed a love for apples and fruit of all types, even the slightly tart variatals of apples. Due to a strong imagination, curiosity and love of exploring new and interesting ways to cause trouble he learned early on how to brew hard cider using nothing more than household goods, which his friends approved of. Strongly. After meeting with Zoe at The Evergreen State College and learning of her desire to start a hard cider company, he immediately joined up and together they worked on the company which would become known as Tart Cider. Since his love for hard cider has been rekindled, he's experimented with and successfully completed over three dozen micro batches which friends and family all thoroughly enjoyed.
